A brief history

Carranco takes its name from the toponym of the property in the Municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, in the hamlet of Verzella, located north of Etna. This winery was born from the will of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli with the intention of exploring new territories. Carranco is therefore the destination, but also the beginning of a journey that starts from Piedmont and arrives in Sicily. A link between Barolo and the Etna area.

Two geographically distant lands, but there are many connections and elements in common: two vines that give life to structured wines with great aging potential (Nebbiolo for Barolo and Nerello Mascalese for Etna Rosso). Then the
altitude and the soil. On the slopes of Etna the climate is of great importance, different from the rest of the island, colder and rainier but which also enjoys the proximity of the sea, thanks to the air that comes from the sea which
make the climate milder and slightly cooler. Furthermore, there are temperature variations between day and night, which are very important for the vine.

An island within the island.
